Yas Waterworld adds UAE’s tallest waterslide in 11-attraction expansion

A landmark expansion at Yas Waterworld on Yas Island has pushed the Abu Dhabi waterpark past 70 total rides and attractions, with the addition of eight new slides, two jump platforms, and a leisure pool unveiled on April 4.

The centerpiece of the new zone is Matamir’s Drop, now holding the title of the UAE’s tallest waterslide, sending riders off a drop exceeding 40 metres before carrying them through 233 metres of twists. Alongside it, Sahel Matamir offers a freefall racing format characterized by sharp bursts of speed and stretches of weightlessness.

Other new slides include Matamir Loop, a body slide built around rapid acceleration, and Matamir Twist – Matamir Lights, which pairs steep descents with lighting effects. Matamir Splash, billed as the park’s first duelling mat racer, lets guests compete side-by-side down parallel lanes.

The expansion also introduces calmer options. Sarab, a wide leisure pool, is designed for families seeking a place to rest, while the Al Afda jump platform offers a lower-stakes thrill for guests who want to leap into open water without committing to a full slide.

All 11 additions are built within a “Lost City” theme that extends the park’s existing Legend of The Lost Pearl narrative.

General Manager Rayan Al Haddar said the launch “marks a major milestone in our journey to redefine water-based entertainment in the region,” adding that it reflects “our commitment to continuously elevating the guest experience through innovation and immersive attractions.”

Yas Waterworld, which opened in 2013, has collected more than 65 industry awards and was named the Middle East’s Leading Water Park at the 2025 World Travel Awards — its third straight year receiving the title.
