Gov’t brings home 87 more Filipinos from Qatar amid Middle East unrest

A total of 87 Filipinos — 73 overseas workers and 14 family members — have arrived back in the Philippines over two consecutive nights as the government pushes forward with its repatriation drive for nationals affected by the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

The larger group, composed of 54 OFWs and 13 relatives, landed at NAIA Terminal 3 on the evening of April 4, 2026, aboard a flight from Qatar. A second batch of 19 workers and one family member followed the next night, April 5, also arriving via Qatar Airways Flight QR928.

Department of Migrant Workers Assistant Secretary Francis Ron C. De Guzman led the reception team on the ground, alongside personnel from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the MIAA Medical Team, and staff from the New NAIA Infrastructure Corp.

Returnees were provided immediate post-arrival support, including food, financial assistance, medical attention, and temporary accommodation while onward travel arrangements were being sorted. Provincial fare was also covered for those heading home outside Metro Manila.

The two batches bring the total number of Filipinos successfully repatriated from Qatar to 564, through the coordinated efforts of the DMW, OWWA, the Department of Foreign Affairs, and the Philippine Embassy in Doha.

Workers were also directed to reach out to agencies including DOLE, DSWD, TESDA, and DTI for longer-term support such as skills retraining, livelihood programs, and job placement assistance.

The repatriation operations are being carried out under a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordering the safe, orderly, and humane return of Filipinos caught in the regional unrest.
