No holiday break for OFW repatriation teams at Philippine airports

Airport assistance centers and the repatriation command center will stay open during the Holy Week break, the Department of Migrant Workers announced on Thursday, even as its Mandaluyong City central office closes for two days.

The ORCC will operate continuously to handle urgent needs, while OWWA and DMW personnel will be stationed at airport terminals to receive OFWs flying in from the Middle East — a region from which large numbers of Filipino workers are currently being repatriated.

“The Migrant Workers Airport Assistance Centers (MWAAC) in all airport terminals will remain open to serve departing OFWs throughout the Holy Week,” the DMW said in a public advisory.

Workers preparing to head abroad can also still access airport-based services during the holiday period.

The central office shutdown covers April 2 and 3. “This is to provide government employees full opportunity to observe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday,” the department said.

Teams assigned to returning workers from the Middle East will be on standby at terminals regardless of the office closure, with the DMW noting that the repatriation effort remains active through the holidays.
