Marcos calls on Filipinos to embrace sacrifice and service this Holy Week

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. released a Holy Week message on Sunday, March 29, 2026, calling on Filipinos to renew their commitment to compassion, service, and faith during the solemn season.

In the message issued from Malacañan Palace, Marcos drew on the Passion of Christ as a reminder that “true greatness is not found in power, but in sacrifice; not in privilege, but in service; and not in comfort, but in the courage to carry the burdens of others.”

The President expressed hope that the season would deepen unity among Filipinos and strengthen their resolve toward what he described as a “more compassionate and prosperous Bagong Pilipinas.”

“May this Holy Week strengthen our resolve to become a nation guided by faith, united in purpose, and inspired by selfless service,” Marcos wrote.

He closed by wishing all Filipinos “a meaningful and blessed Holy Week.”

Holy Week in the Philippines — one of the most predominantly Catholic countries in Asia — is observed through religious processions, church services, and family gatherings, with many businesses and government offices suspending operations from Maundy Thursday through Black Saturday.
