A woman who collected fees from jobseekers by presenting herself as a representative of a licensed recruitment agency she had no connection to has been convicted of large-scale illegal recruitment by a Manila court.
The Regional Trial Court Branch 6 in Manila found Marlyn Legaspi Baldedara guilty after evidence showed she had recruited four individuals for factory work in Poland, charging each a Php 50,000 processing fee and an additional Php 5,000 agent fee.
Baldedara was a licensed recruitment officer — but for a different company entirely. She used the name of PLJL Manpower Exporter, Inc. in approaching the victims despite having no affiliation with that firm. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) had already suspended PLJL’s license in 2022.
The DMW is urging anyone else who may have been defrauded by Baldedara to reach out to its Migrant Workers Protection Bureau for free legal assistance, either through Facebook at facebook.com/dmwairtip or by email at airtipinfo@dmw.gov.ph.
