DMW reaches out to OFWs in the UAE via email to check on their safety amid Middle East tensions

The Department of Migrant Workers has sent out an automated safety advisory to Overseas Filipino Workers based in the United Arab Emirates through the Kumusta Kabayan OFW Monitoring Center, urging them to immediately confirm their current condition amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

The email, sent in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, asks OFWs to report whether they are safe or in need of assistance, with the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi’s hotline numbers listed for those in immediate danger.

Around 80 to 100 OFWs in Dubai have so far expressed the desire to return to the Philippines, though no mandatory repatriation has been ordered. With UAE airspace and airports still closed, the DMW has been assisting affected workers by relocating them to safer areas and providing basic needs such as food, water, and shelter while awaiting safe departure options.

The Philippine government says it is prepared to facilitate voluntary repatriation once conditions allow, coordinating with embassies, consulates, and other agencies to establish exit points by air, land, or sea. Officials urge OFWs and their families to stay in close contact with DMW, OWWA, and Philippine diplomatic missions for updates.
