Sometimes the reset you didn’t plan becomes the decision that defines you. In 2022, while much of the world was still regaining its balance after COVID, Red Ordoñez made a choice that would quietly redirect his future.
He didn’t pivot because it was trendy. He pivoted because he realized something permanent about himself.
“I realised that uncertainty is inevitable, careers can change, roles can be replaced but skills, passion, and purpose stay with you,” he says. “That pushed me to focus on something I truly love.”

Today, that focus has placed him inside some of Dubai’s most high-profile creative spaces — including as the official makeup artist of AURA Skypool, the world’s highest 360-degree infinity pool, and the AURA Podcast hosted by Kubi Springer, which has drawn more than 20 million viewers globally.
But none of that was instant.
Building credibility before recognition
Red entered the beauty industry at a time when many people were reconsidering stability. Rather than chase quick visibility, he invested in professional hair and makeup certification and committed to learning the craft properly.
He started small. Complimentary services. Creative collaborations. Strategic networking. He understood that reputation is built long before recognition follows.
“I accepted opportunities with an open heart while learning to recognise my limits and value,” he explains.
There was no rush to appear established. His goal was different.
“From the very beginning, my goal was not just to build a career, but to build a reputation one, rooted in professionalism and a positive attitude. I believe that the way you carry yourself leaves a lasting impression long after the work is done.”
That mindset shaped how he approached every room he entered. For Red, artistry was only half the job. Conduct mattered just as much.

Alignment over ego
Working with brands, celebrities, and premium venues requires more than creative flair. It demands discipline.
“A typical workday begins with alignment,” Red says. “When working with brands, celebrities, or venues like AURA Skypool, it’s essential to fully understand the brand identity, the goal of the project, and the brief that has been given.”
He is clear about his role in high-profile environments.
“Your role is to translate their vision, not your personal preference. Clearing your mind of personal bias is crucial, if you don’t align with the brand’s desired outcome, you won’t achieve what they are truly looking for.”
That level of restraint is what builds trust. While brands occasionally seek his professional input, he approaches it with preparation and strategy.
“When it does, I always come prepared with thoughtful backup suggestions that still respect their identity and objectives.”
In a fast-paced industry driven by image, Red emphasizes something less visible but equally critical: reliability. “At this level, success is not just about creativity. It is about understanding the vision and executing it with precision and professionalism.”
And beneath all of that is something simple. “Working as a makeup artist is a wonderful experience because, in a way, you’re creating happiness helping someone feel confident and seen.”
Representing more than himself
Becoming the official makeup artist for AURA Skypool was not just another booking. It marked a shift in scale and visibility.
“I couldn’t be more proud,” he says. “AURA Skypool is one of the most iconic venues in Dubai, a global tourist attraction and the world’s largest 360-degree infinity pool.”
The AURA Podcast — filmed while guests float above the Dubai skyline — blends storytelling and spectacle in a format that has reached over 20 million viewers. Red’s work is part of that global exposure.
“What makes it even more meaningful is that I am the only Filipino in the production, from backstage to on-screen,” he shares. “I carry that responsibility with pride, knowing that I represent not only myself but also the Filipino community showing that we belong in global, high-level creative spaces.”
The trust required for that position extends beyond technical skill.
“It’s never just about how well you use makeup tools or how creative you are. At this level, AURA Skypool Podcast looks for someone who is reliable, adaptable, calm under pressure, and confident.”
Before every episode, he studies the guest — reviewing profiles, understanding preferences, anticipating comfort levels. The preparation is invisible to viewers, but essential to the result.

“My responsibility is to fully own my makeup station and ensure that whoever sits in my chair is taken care of professionally and confidently.”
The room where Ronaldo waited
If there was a moment that crystallized how far he had come, it happened at Atlantis The Royal during the Globe Soccer Awards.
Red was assigned to work with VIPs and hosts. Then came the unexpected update: he would be on standby for Cristiano Ronaldo.
“I was especially excited when I was informed that I would be a standby makeup artist for Cristiano Ronaldo,” he recalls.
Security was intense. Crowds gathered outside hoping to catch a glimpse of the football icon. Red was already inside, positioned in the VIP area, prepared and waiting.
“However makeup for Ronaldo was unfortunately not required due to time constraints.”
The moment passed quietly. But the significance didn’t.
“When I finished my work and exited the venue, people even asked to buy my general access pass just to get inside but of course, I kept it. Moments like that remind me how far dedication and hard work can take you.”
He didn’t need the photo-op. Being trusted to be in the room was enough.
More than makeup
Red’s creative process extends beyond foundation and contour. He experiments with tools, explores SFX makeup, and approaches each concept with preparation.
“The process is never easy until you learn to fully trust yourself,” he says. “Preparation is key, just like an exam.”
Understanding products, techniques, and the client’s personality is non-negotiable. “These are steps you should never skip.”
He acknowledges that imagination doesn’t always translate perfectly on the first attempt. But that challenge is part of the appeal.
“Bringing imagination to life is not always straightforward… But makeup is playful. It allows room for experimentation, growth, and discovery.”
Looking ahead, Red is thinking beyond individual bookings. “Red Styling is the brand, and I am the brand. Everything I do reflects my values, my work ethic, and my vision.”
He hopes to move into international productions and large-scale campaigns that tell stories beyond aesthetics. More importantly, he wants his presence in global spaces to signal something to others watching from the sidelines.
“If my journey can inspire even a few people to trust themselves, stay consistent, and work with humility, then I believe Red Styling is already fulfilling its purpose.”
For someone who began by questioning what remains when everything feels uncertain, that purpose now looks clear.
