Trillanes rejects $2 million allegation tied to ICC probe

Questions surrounding the International Criminal Court’s inquiry into former president Rodrigo Duterte have spilled into a fresh political dispute, with accusations that money changed hands to support the case. The allegation centers on claims that $2 million was funneled to former senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV, supposedly sourced from former House Representative Elizaldy “Zaldy” Co.

The accusation was earlier raised by lawyer Levi Baligod, who alleged that former Marines transported substantial cash amounts reportedly linked to irregularities in flood control projects. According to the claim, a portion of those funds was intended for personalities associated with the ICC investigation.

In a statement posted on social media, Trillanes flatly rejected the allegation. “I vehemently deny that I received $2M or any amount from Zaldy Co for the ICC investigation or any other purpose. This is an attempt to discredit the ongoing ICC proceedings against duterte. I will be filing cyberlibel cases against Levi Baligod, Mike Defensor, Jay Sonza, the 18 ex-soldiers, and all those who are maliciously circulating this blatant lie. This is not new to me. I will not be distracted. Hahabulin ko kayo.”

Trillanes maintained that the accusation was fabricated and aimed at undermining the credibility of the international proceedings. He identified several individuals whom he said he intends to include in planned legal actions over the circulation of the claim.

Baligod’s assertions form part of broader allegations involving alleged misuse of public funds, which he said were moved in large quantities of cash. No independent documentation confirming the supposed $2 million transfer has been publicly presented.

Trillanes stated that he will pursue cyberlibel complaints against those he named in connection with the allegation.
