Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon brushed aside online speculation linking him to a possible 2028 national ticket alongside Naga City Mayor and former Vice President Leni Robredo.
The speculation gained traction after a photo circulated showing Dizon, Robredo, and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. together during the launch of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ Oplan Kontra Baha initiative in Naga City over the weekend. Social media users began floating the idea of a potential presidential and vice-presidential pairing for the next national elections.
Asked about the chatter during an inspection of the Bridge of Promise in Batangas City on Monday, Dizon made clear he was not entertaining the idea.
“Hey, don’t bring me into that. I’m just working here. Don’t bring me into that kind of politics,” he told reporters.
Robredo, for her part, has previously addressed questions about a return to national politics. During the 2024 filing of candidacies for the local polls, she dismissed the prospect of another presidential bid, emphasizing her intention to concentrate on governing Naga City. She had contested the presidency against Marcos in 2022 and has not committed to seeking the post again.
With the 2028 elections still more than two years away, formal declarations remain limited. Vice President Sara Duterte has publicly stated her plan to seek the presidency, even as she faces four impeachment complaints.
Within the opposition, discussions about a standard-bearer are still ongoing. Senator Risa Hontiveros earlier indicated that the coalition has yet to finalize its timetable for naming a candidate. In May 2025, she said she is “open” to be the standard-bearer for the bloc.
