The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the OFW Hospital have started a three-day surgical, medical, and optical mission aimed at providing free healthcare services to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), their families, and other underserved beneficiaries.
The activity began on Wednesday, February 18, and will run until February 20, with First Lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos leading the kickoff ceremony.
Also present during the opening were DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa, and OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan.
National and local government officials joined the initiative as part of broader coordination efforts to bring medical services closer to communities, including NANAY Partylist Representative Florabel Yatco, Pampanga Governor Lilia “Nanay” Pineda, and Vice Governor Dennis Pineda.
The mission is being conducted in partnership with the Makati Medical Center Foundation and includes free minor and selected elective major surgical procedures such as thyroidectomy, cholecystectomy, excision, varicocelectomy, and selected obstetrics cases.
Aside from surgical services, the mission also provides general medical consultations, basic laboratory services, required medicines, and optical services such as vision screening, refraction, and the distribution of prescription eyeglasses.
To ensure safe and efficient delivery of services, the OFW Hospital implemented strict patient screening, diagnostic clearance requirements, and organized operating room scheduling.
The OFW Hospital has continued expanding its capacity to deliver comprehensive healthcare services for OFWs and their families, reporting that it served more than 124,000 patients in 2025.
It has also received a DOH License to Operate Level 2, DOH MFOWS Accreditation, and other recognitions related to healthcare excellence.
Construction is also ongoing for the OFW Hospital – Bagong Pilipinas Cancer Care Center, which began in October 2025.
