President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called on Muslims to use Ramadan as a period of renewed spiritual discipline and deeper service to others, as Islamic communities in the Philippines and abroad began the sacred month of fasting.
In a message dated Feb. 17, Marcos said Ramadan offers believers an opportunity to strengthen their connection with Allah and return to values rooted in mercy, justice, and compassion.
“I join our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world as you enter the Holy Month of Ramadan,” he said.
He emphasized that the month invites the faithful to reflect inwardly and cultivate humility, saying this devotion should translate into actions that benefit not only individuals but also the people around them.
“Upon this dedication, we stand on sacred ground—a place of renewal—where spiritual growth bears fruit not only in our own lives, but also in the lives of those entrusted to our care,” Marcos said.
The President also cited the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), urging Muslims to renew their commitment to living according to Islamic teachings.
“May your faith be deepened and your commitment be renewed to live out His teachings,” he said.
He further expressed hope that the sacrifices and reflections undertaken during Ramadan would strengthen Muslims in showing compassion, especially toward those who are struggling.
“May your sacrifices, reflections, and encounters strengthen you to embody His boundless love for humanity, especially for the least among our brethren,” Marcos said.
Marcos also appealed for solidarity within Muslim communities, encouraging the faithful to strengthen their shared concern for one another as they observe the holy month.
“I wish you a peaceful and holy observance of this blessed month,” he said, ending his message with “Ramadan Mubarak!”
Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, and reflection, commemorating the revelation of the Holy Qur’an.
