Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has officially named his new puppy after drawing massive attention online through a simple Instagram Story that quickly spread across social media.
The Dubai Crown Prince, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, revealed that he selected the name ‘Pluto’ for the white male pup after receiving an overwhelming number of suggestions from followers.
The naming moment began when Sheikh Hamdan posted a photo of the puppy on Instagram Stories and asked his audience: “What should we name him?” The post was seen by his 17.4 million followers, turning what would normally be a private choice into a highly shared public interaction.
Fans from different parts of the world responded with a wide mix of name ideas, including familiar choices such as Bobby, Zeus, and Leo, along with creative suggestions like Sakura and Albie.
Others drew inspiration from the puppy’s bright white coat, proposing names such as Snow, Casper, and Pearl. Additional entries included Milo, Topaz, Prince, Blue, Ocean, and Smokey, reflecting both personal taste and cultural influence.
Some followers also submitted names in various languages, including Tamil and Russian options, while others suggested Arabic-inspired names. Many participants expressed excitement about being involved in the process, leaving enthusiastic comments along with heart emojis.
Sheikh Hamdan has long been known for sharing his fondness for animals online, frequently posting photos with them. In 2022, he rescued a stray Saluki-mix dog that had been shot with air gun pellets, later naming her Grace and supporting her recovery under his care.
