A Filipina nurse has died after she and two other Filipina nurses were struck by a speeding vehicle in a hit-and-run incident in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, prompting the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to step in and assist in the repatriation of her remains.
The DMW said on Wednesday that it is coordinating efforts to ensure the immediate return of the deceased nurse to the Philippines, while also keeping in touch with the families of the victims.
“Assistance is now being provided to facilitate the immediate repatriation of the remains of the (Filipina nurse), including helping the family gather the necessary documents. Families of the victims have already been informed, along with the next of kin of the incident,” the department said.
The incident happened early Saturday, January 31, according to the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Jeddah, which shared details of the case through its official Facebook page.
“At 1am on January 31, the three Filipina nurses were on their way home after shopping at Tabuk Park Mall. When they were crossing a wide road in Muruj Al Amir district, in front of the mall, they were suddenly hit by a speeding vehicle,” MWO-Jeddah said.
The three nurses, who were employed by a major clinic in Tabuk, were reportedly brought to King Khalid Hospital in an unconscious state.
“The Filipinas – employed by a major clinic in Tabuk – were rushed by an ambulance to King Khalid Hospital, completely unconscious. Two of them woke up on Sunday (February 1), but one of them was unresponsive and passed away at the hospital,” the MWO added.
Saudi authorities have taken the driver into custody after he allegedly attempted to escape following the crash, and the case remains under investigation.
The DMW said it is continuing to monitor the medical condition of the two surviving nurses, including one who has been transferred to Riyadh for further treatment and surgery.
