Dubai is set to add an unprecedented landmark to its urban landscape with plans for what is being described as the world’s first street constructed using gold, a project positioned within a newly launched retail and tourism hub in Deira.
The proposed Gold Street forms part of the Dubai Gold District, a purpose-built development introduced by property developer Ithra Dubai as a dedicated centre for gold, jewellery, and luxury-related retail. Designed as a visitor attraction as much as a commercial destination, the street is intended to reinforce the emirate’s long-standing association with the precious metals trade.
Often referred to as the “City of Gold,” Dubai has built much of its reputation on its role as a global trading hub for bullion and jewellery, anchored historically by the Dubai Gold Souk. The new district aims to extend that legacy by creating a concentrated zone that blends retail, hospitality, and tourism experiences.
According to project details released at the district’s launch, the Dubai Gold District will host more than 1,000 retailers spanning gold, jewellery, perfumery, cosmetics, and lifestyle offerings. Confirmed brands include Jawhara Jewellery, Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Al Romaizan, and Tanishq Jewellery. Joyalukkas has also announced plans for a 24,000-square-foot flagship outlet, which is expected to be its largest store in the Middle East.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), which operates under the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, said the development reflects both heritage and future ambition.
“Gold is deeply woven into the cultural and commercial fabric of Dubai, symbolising our heritage, prosperity, and enduring spirit of enterprise,” Al Khaja said.
“Through this landmark destination, we not only celebrate that legacy but also reimagine it for a new era shaped by creativity and sustainability.”
He added that the project highlights coordination between government entities and private developers. “This achievement reflects the strength of collaboration between our public and private sectors and underscores the collective ambition of our partners and stakeholders in positioning Dubai at the forefront of global innovation and excellence,” he said.
The wider district is designed to accommodate international visitors and trade partners, with more than 1,000 hotel rooms planned across six hotels located within the development.
