Early morning hail surprises residents in parts of Ras Al Khaimah

Unusual early-morning hail was reported at dawn in Al Rams and other northern parts of Ras Al Khaimah, with residents sharing videos online showing brief hail showers as the day broke.

The wintry conditions followed overnight rainfall in several areas of Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, while parts of Al Ain also saw rain late last night. The precipitation brought cooler temperatures and temporary relief as unsettled weather persisted across the country’s northern and eastern regions.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), today’s conditions are being shaped by the extension of a surface low-pressure system, reinforced by an upper-air low. The system has led to partly cloudy to cloudy skies nationwide, a slight dip in temperatures, and the possibility of light rain, mainly over northern and eastern areas.

Daytime highs are forecast to reach between 20°C and 24°C in coastal and island areas. Inland locations are expected to record temperatures of 22°C to 26°C, while mountain regions will remain significantly cooler, ranging from 12°C to 18°C.

Temperatures will drop further overnight, with coastal areas expected to see lows of 12°C to 17°C. Inland regions may fall to between 8°C and 13°C, while mountain temperatures could decline to as low as 6°C.

Humidity levels are predicted to rise sharply overnight and into Tuesday morning, particularly in coastal and internal areas, increasing the likelihood of fog or mist. Winds will generally be light to moderate, at times becoming fresher and causing blowing dust in exposed locations.

Marine conditions are expected to be moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf, with the Oman Sea also turning rough at times before conditions gradually improve.

Looking ahead, Tuesday is forecast to be fair to partly cloudy, with low clouds forming over eastern and northern areas. Humidity is expected to build overnight, raising the chance of fog or mist by Wednesday morning, especially in western regions.

Wednesday will bring similar weather, with fair to partly cloudy skies and a gradual increase in temperatures, followed by another rise in humidity overnight and a chance of fog early Thursday.

By Thursday afternoon, low clouds are expected over eastern and northern parts of the country, with a renewed chance of light rainfall. Winds are forecast to strengthen at times, and sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf are expected to become rough by night.

On Friday, temperatures are set to decline again under fair to partly cloudy skies, while increasing overnight humidity may lead to fog or mist early Saturday and northwesterly winds keep sea conditions moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf.
