Survey shows one in three Filipinos support impeachment of both Marcos and Duterte

Roughly a third of Filipinos favor the simultaneous removal of both Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte, according to a recent nationwide poll conducted by market research firm Tangere.

The non-commissioned survey showed that 33 percent of respondents—many of whom previously supported the Marcos-Duterte “UniTeam” during the 2022 elections—now support impeachment proceedings against both officials, citing frustration over the deepening political rift between the country’s top two leaders.

When asked who should assume leadership if both offices were vacated, a majority of these respondents named former vice president Leni Robredo as their preferred caretaker, while about one in four chose Ramon Ang, the chairman and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corp..

Across the full sample, support for impeaching President Marcos outpaced calls to remove Vice President Duterte. About 68 percent of respondents expressed support for moves against the president, compared with 42 percent who said they favor Duterte’s impeachment.

Tangere reported that dissatisfaction with President Marcos was most pronounced in Mindanao, including among voters who backed Duterte in the last election. By contrast, Marcos’ support remained comparatively steadier in Northern and Central Luzon. For Vice President Duterte, impeachment sentiment was stronger in Southern, Northern, and Central Luzon, largely driven by voter groups that previously supported either Marcos or Robredo.

The poll also found that if Duterte were removed from office alone, more than half of respondents believe President Marcos should appoint Robredo as her replacement.

The survey was conducted from Jan. 14 to 16, 2026, using a mobile-based respondent platform. It involved 1,200 participants nationwide and carries a margin of error of ±2.77 percent at a 95-percent confidence level. Respondents were selected through stratified random sampling, with regional representation from the National Capital Region, Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

Tangere described itself as a technology-driven research firm and said it is affiliated with international and local industry groups, including the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research.

Amid the survey’s release, Vice President Duterte on Tuesday dismissed the prospect of another impeachment complaint against her, calling it a “fundraising activity” by members of the House of Representatives as the anniversary of her first impeachment case approaches.

Her most recent impeachment case—the fourth filed against her—was approved on Feb. 6, 2025 after being signed by 281 lawmakers and was immediately transmitted to the Senate. The charges include graft and corruption, bribery, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust.

Speaking to supporters outside The Hague, Netherlands, where she was visiting her detained father, Duterte said she anticipated another complaint to be filed a year after the previous one. “We know its going to happen. As expected, it would be like the previous fundraising of members of the House of Representatives. It is all about the money,” she said.

She did not comment on the impeachment complaint filed against President Marcos. Earlier, her brother Paolo Duterte, a representative of Davao City, claimed that the cases against the vice president were being fast-tracked by a supermajority acting under the influence of a higher authority.
