Dubai Police shatters response time goals, arrives on emergencies in just over 2.5 minutes

Major General Pilot Ahmad Mohammed bin Thani, Assistant Commandant for Ports Affairs, highlighted the impressive achievements of the Dubai Police in emergency response and technological advancements throughout 2022.

The Dubai Police Force set a remarkable record by reaching emergency sites in just 2 minutes and 32 seconds on average, outperforming their goal of a 3-minute response time. In addition, the force maintained a stellar response rate to emergency calls, answering 99.7 percent of the 7.4 million calls made to the 999 hotline within 10 seconds, well above the target of 97 percent.

The inspection also shed light on Dubai Police’s integration of cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Among the innovative tools reviewed were “Virtual Operations Room” smart goggles designed to train staff using virtual reality, which display multiple control room screens, maps, and live camera feeds.

Bin Thani was also briefed on the handheld wireless operations toolkit, which features essential software for real-time incident reporting and patrol surveillance, ensuring seamless communication with the operations room. Additionally, he inspected a sophisticated mobile operations vehicle, which is equipped with specialized applications and equipment for extensive external event coverage.

Innovative projects within the General Department of Operations were also highlighted, with the department acquiring 22 intellectual properties (IP). These projects include an advanced drone operating course and a call centre assessment programme.

Other notable initiatives presented to Bin Thani were the Drone Systems Centre project, the Smart Alert Reporting initiative, the “Joker” initiative, and the Women’s Empowerment Team, all completed last year.

The General Operations Department’s list of achievements is extensive. They were the first to receive accreditation from the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority for the use of drones beyond the line of sight. Their Drone Box project and support for innovation were recognized in the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief Awards, where they also won best entity in strategic objective.

Lastly, the department has broadened its international reach by extending its membership in the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) and pioneering the E-call service in the country, reinforcing Dubai Police’s status as a leader in emergency response and public safety innovation.
