Dubai Police have impounded 24 vehicles, including 19 cars and five motorcycles, after their drivers were caught performing hazardous stunts amidst rainy conditions in Al Ruwayyah.
The crackdown followed the circulation of a video showing the offenders engaging in perilous driving behavior, with vehicles seen drifting, spinning, and displaying blinking neon lights. The footage also disturbingly revealed individuals standing on the beds of pickup trucks and others with their bodies hanging out of car windows while speeding.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, the director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, expressed concern over the continued disregard for traffic laws, highlighting a persistent lack of awareness amongst some motorists who engage in such chaotic conduct despite repeated warnings.
Stunt driving is a serious offense in the UAE, carrying a hefty fine of Dh50,000 for those whose vehicles are seized for such actions. Furthermore, drivers endangering lives can face additional fines of Dh2,000, accrue 23 black points against their driving record, and have their vehicle impounded for 60 days.
A total of 35 fines were issued in relation to the recent incidents, covering a range of infractions including stunt driving, reckless behavior, causing excessive noise, and the unsafe practice of sticking heads out of moving vehicles.
