Dubai court fines 22-year-old woman AED 5,000 in drug use case

A 22-year-old Asian woman has been ordered to pay a fine after a Dubai misdemeanours court ruled that she consumed psychotropic substances, bringing the case to a close without a custodial sentence.

Court filings show that the defendant acknowledged the accusation during questioning by prosecutors and later repeated the admission in court, which formed part of the evidence assessed by the judge. According to a Gulf News report, the ruling concluded that the materials on record met the threshold required for a conviction, resulting in a financial penalty rather than imprisonment.

The case was initiated following intelligence received by Dubai Police’s General Department of Anti-Narcotics, indicating possible involvement in drug use and possession. Investigators conducted verification measures, including surveillance and background checks, to confirm the accuracy of the information before proceeding with the arrest, according to reporting by Emarat Al Youm.

The court ultimately limited the punishment to a fine of AED 5,000 after determining that the elements of the offence had been established under UAE law.
