Dubai’s Burj Khalifa ‘skeleton dance’ video raises suspicions

A TikTok video showcasing a massive illuminated skeleton seemingly dancing around the Burj Khalifa has captured the attention of social media users worldwide. This Halloween-themed spectacle presented by Geoscan, a company claiming to be the “#1 drone show provider” as per their Instagram bio, has now become a subject of speculation and scrutiny across various media outlets.

The viral footage depicts what appears to be a giant drone-rendered skeleton performing acrobatics on the facade of the world’s tallest building, enthralling viewers with its novelty. However, skepticism has surfaced due to certain inconsistencies.

Firstly, despite the potential for thousands of onlookers to witness such an event, there is a curious lack of multiple videos from different perspectives, something almost guaranteed today given the ubiquity of smartphones. The original video offers scant glimpses of bystanders who seem uninterested and not engaged with the spectacle.

Moreover, neither the Burj Khalifa nor Emaar, the property’s owner, has shared any content related to this event on their official Instagram accounts, a common practice for their usual high-profile shows involving drones, fireworks, and lasers.

Lastly, with the rise of sophisticated CGI technology, the possibility that the video is an artificially-rendered creation cannot be dismissed. This trend has seen an uptick in fake videos featuring Dubai’s landmarks in recent years.

As it stands, while the ‘skeleton dance’ video has entertained many, the lack of corroborating evidence and silence from official channels casts doubt on its authenticity. The jury is out, and it appears the skeleton might just be another ghost in the machine of digital artifice.
