Communities across northern and central Saudi Arabia are bracing for overnight temperatures that could drop below freezing as a fresh winter system settles in midweek, bringing a sharp shift in conditions for several regions.
Weather data released by the National Centre of Meteorology indicate that Al Jouf, the Northern Borders, Hail, Qassim and parts of Riyadh will be among the areas most affected on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecasts show minimum temperatures falling to near freezing in many locations, with some pockets expected to dip as low as minus 1°C.
The approaching system represents the third significant cold spell recorded in the Kingdom this winter season. Earlier in December, a previous wave produced unusually low temperatures and snowfall in northern areas, including Hail and Tabuk, disrupting normal winter patterns.
Meteorologists warned that the coldest conditions are likely to occur before sunrise and after sunset, periods when exposure risks are highest. Residents in affected provinces have been advised to take protective measures during these hours, particularly vulnerable groups and those working outdoors.
Officials said monitoring of atmospheric conditions remains ongoing and encouraged the public to rely on official weather bulletins and safety advisories as the cold wave progresses.
