Former PNP chief Nicolas Torre III sworn in as new MMDA general manager

A leadership change at the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority formally took effect on Friday as former Philippine National Police chief Nicolas Torre III assumed his new post following an oath-taking ceremony at Malacañang Palace.

Executive Secretary Ralph Recto administered Torre’s oath of office inside his office at the Palace, marking the start of Torre’s tenure as MMDA general manager.

The appointment was publicly disclosed earlier by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on December 20. Torre takes over the position previously held by Procopio Lipana.

Torre’s move to the MMDA comes months after his brief stint at the helm of the Philippine National Police, where he served from May 29 until August 26, a period that lasted just under three months.

His departure from the PNP leadership followed a dispute with the National Police Commission after he declined to implement an order reversing his reassignment of lieutenant generals Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and Bernard Banac.

Following Torre’s removal, Nartatez was designated as acting chief of the Philippine National Police.
