Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle framed overseas Filipino workers’ presence abroad as a calling that extends beyond providing for relatives back home, urging them to recognize a spiritual role alongside their economic responsibilities.
Addressing what he described as “fellow OFWs,” the Catholic leader said migration places Filipinos in positions where faith can be lived and shared in everyday encounters, not confined to church walls or formal ministries.
“I believe He also sends us to different countries to be witnesses of our faith— both as migrants and missionaries,” said the Cardinal.
He acknowledged the pressures and difficulties faced by Filipinos working far from home, noting that displacement, cultural adjustment, and personal sacrifice are common realities for many overseas workers.
“I hope this will be our source of strength whenever challenges arise,” said Tagle.
“Knowing that God is with us and has brought us there, we can carry out our mission,” he added.
