No Filipinos among reported casualties in Sydney Bondi shooting, consulate says

Australian authorities are investigating a deadly shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney that left 15 people dead after gunfire erupted during a Hanukkah gathering on December 14. Police identified the suspected attackers as a 50-year-old man and his 24-year-old son, with one of them shot dead at the scene and the other placed in critical condition.

Amid concerns for overseas communities, the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney said there have been no reports linking Filipino nationals to the list of confirmed fatalities or those injured in the incident.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, the consulate said it had been in direct coordination with the New South Wales Police Protection Operations Unit and was informed that “as of this time, there are no indications that Filipino nationals are among the confirmed fatalities or injured.”

The consulate advised Filipinos in New South Wales to stay alert and comply with instructions issued by local police and emergency responders as investigations continue.

“For emergency concerns and urgent consular assistance needs directly arising from this incident, please contact the Consulate’s Assistance to Nationals Hotline at +61 481 728 027,” the post read.

The Philippine mission also conveyed its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died in the shooting.
