Support for migrant workers in Cagayan Valley took center stage this week as assistance amounting to more than P5 million was distributed to hundreds of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) across the region. The help reached 217 qualified beneficiaries from four provinces, according to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
OWWA-2 Regional Director Virsie B. Tamayao said the aid covered a range of programs designed for OFWs in distress or transition. These include “Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay,” Special Financial Assistance, medical support under the Welfare Assistance Program, and social benefits for death and burial cases.
Tamayao emphasized that the rollout reflects the agency’s ongoing drive to provide timely and compassionate services to migrant workers who may be dealing with job loss, emergencies, or other family-related difficulties.
The distribution relied heavily on coordination with local partners. In Isabela, OWWA noted the role of the provincial government through Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Isabela Manager Cecilia Claire Reyes.
In Quirino Province, OWWA extended its thanks to Jun Vincent Alay-ay, representing Congresswoman Midy Cua, along with the Provincial Government of Quirino and Provincial PESO Manager Daniphine Badua for helping sustain initiatives that promote OFW welfare.
Some beneficiaries were not present during the awarding. OWWA advised them to personally visit the regional office in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, to claim their assistance.
Tamayao said the coordinated efforts reaffirm the agency’s commitment to ensuring that OFWs in Cagayan Valley receive the services and care due to them.
