AI, elections, and K-dramas top Google searches as Filipinos go online for answers in 2025

A year marked by political tension, major disasters, and fast-evolving technology pushed Filipinos to Google for clarity and distraction, creating a wide-ranging mix of the country’s most searched topics for 2025.

The public’s growing fascination with artificial intelligence drove one of the year’s biggest spikes. Google’s student offer — a free one-year trial of Gemini Pro rolled out in October — helped propel “Gemini” to the top of all Philippine search trends.

National events also played a decisive role. Queries tied to the 2025 Midterm Elections dominated news-related searches, as Filipinos looked up senatorial contenders, the latest tallies, and the broader “Halalan 2025 Results.” Government services likewise drew attention, with National ID and EGovPh appearing in the top news list.

Lighter interests, however, held their ground. The Roblox title Grow a Garden captured users across age groups, drawing enough activity to land among the biggest overall searches in the country.

Concerns over public safety surged during the year’s sequence of strong earthquakes in Cebu, Davao, and nearby regions. Searches such as “earthquake near me” and “earthquake safety information” climbed sharply as residents sought real-time updates and preparedness tips.

Entertainment remained a staple of Filipino browsing habits. Global and local titles — including Tibok, Squid Game, and Final Destination — stood out across multiple categories, reflecting the country’s heavy engagement with streaming, music, and movie culture.

Across specific categories, search behavior varied widely. Filipinos tracked major sporting events like OKC vs. Indiana, Pacquiao vs. Barrios, and Wimbledon 2025. In music, tracks such as Marilag, Multo, and Opalite featured prominently. Personalities such as Alexandra Eala, Andy Byron, d4vd, Pope Leo XIV, Bea Borres, and Claudia Barreto also captured substantial public interest. Films including Superman, Thunderbolts, The Gorge, and 28 Years Later rounded out the year’s most-searched movies.

Interest in AI tools formed a separate wave of activity, with users frequently looking up Gemini AI, DeepSeek, Claude, BLACKBOX.AI, ChatGPT, Veo 3, and Nano Banana, along with searches for the prompt “Humanize this.”

Internationally, music lovers drove Golden by HUNTR/X — featured in K-Pop Demon Hunters — to the top of the global “Hum to Search” list. News searches around the world were heavily shaped by the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, whose influence extended to podcasts, where The Charlie Kirk Show ranked first.

Global trending personalities also included singer d4vd, who became a central topic of inquiry after being identified as a suspect in the death of a teen girl found inside his Tesla.

The entertainment category held steady worldwide as well, with Anora, Superman, A Minecraft Movie, Thunderbolts, and Sinners emerging as the most-searched upcoming films.

The final tally of overall top trending searches in the Philippines brought together technology, public affairs, and popular culture — led by Gemini AI, Halalan 2025 results, Grow a Garden, earthquake near me, Women in STEM fields, Squid Game, digibooth, National ID, OKC vs Indiana, and Khan Academy — capturing the wide spectrum of what Filipinos wanted to understand, follow, or enjoy throughout the year.
