Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque weighed in on the recent suspension of Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga, using a video message released on Thursday, December 4, to voice his support for the young legislator.
Roque began by praising Barzaga’s stance in Congress, saying, “Dapat talagang palakpakan ang mga matatapang, ang mga naninindigan, mga batang mambabatas, gaya ni Cong Meow Meow.” He went on to argue that the penalty imposed on the Cavite representative was unwarranted and suggested that Barzaga deserved a higher position instead of disciplinary action. “Hindi po siya dapat suspendihin, dapat nga gawin siyang House Speaker,” he added.
The former Palace official linked his remarks to his views on national leadership, asserting that Barzaga should assume a key role should the country come under a different administration. In his words, “Kaya nga po kung matatanggal ang Marcos bangag na ‘yan. Importante siguro, sa ilalim ni Vice President Sara Duterte, eh dapat nga siguro eh maging House Speaker si Cong Meow Meow at bawian ang lahat ng binoto para sa pagkasuspinde n’ya.”
Barzaga’s suspension was finalized on December 1 after 249 House members voted in favor of a 60-day sanction. Five lawmakers rejected the motion, while 11 abstained.
