TV5 has broken its silence following ABS-CBN’s confirmation that it received a notice ending their content supply agreement, releasing a detailed statement outlining why the network decided to terminate the five-year partnership inked in 2023. The Kapatid Network said its share of revenues—funds that ABS-CBN is contractually required to remit—had reached a point where the delays were severely affecting TV5’s ability to pay its own employees, artists, and program partners.
According to TV5, the agreement requires ABS-CBN to regularly turn over the network’s portion of advertising income earned from Kapamilya-produced programs aired on TV5. The company said these collections, currently held by ABS-CBN, have accumulated to a level that has directly impacted TV5’s financial stability. The network noted that despite several appeals, the pending payments remained unresolved.
TV5 also emphasized that it had opened its doors to Kapamilya programs in the aftermath of ABS-CBN’s franchise loss in 2020, and similarly welcomed displaced content when Eat Bulaga left its longtime home in 2023. The network said it has always strived to be “a Kapatid to anyone in need,” acknowledging the strong audience reception to ABS-CBN shows on its platform.
In its statement, TV5 stressed that while it understands the financial challenges that ABS-CBN continues to face—particularly following years of operating at a loss—it must also safeguard its own operations. The withheld revenues, it said, have made it difficult to compensate its workforce and sustain ongoing productions. TV5 added that it has not received any commitment or assurance from ABS-CBN that the overdue amounts will be settled.
ABS-CBN earlier denied accusations of intentionally delaying payments, saying “There is no truth to any insinuation that ABS-CBN willfully delayed payment,” and maintained that the figures and claims remain disputed. The Kapamilya Network has asked for additional time within the 30-day window provided, citing the lingering financial strain from its shutdown in 2020.
Despite the dispute, TV5 underscored that it values the partnership and recognizes ABS-CBN’s contributions to the industry. However, the network said its leniency “must now yield to the realities of this business,” adding that the decision to issue the termination notice was necessary for its long-term sustainability.
TV5 assured viewers that programming will continue uninterrupted, stating that it remains committed to delivering quality content “no matter what ensues from all these issues.”
