A drinking session inside a bar in Tagum City ended in violence early Monday when a man was shot after a quarrel over a videoke song.
Police investigators in Tagum said the victim, a 25-year-old man, had been sharing drinks with a companion identified only as “Jecmar” at a bar in Purok Bayanihan, Barangay Magugpo West. A waitress who spoke with authorities recounted that the group appeared to be enjoying themselves before the situation abruptly changed.
According to the initial findings, the atmosphere shifted when the suspect became upset after the victim sang a track he had allegedly selected on the videoke machine. Officers said the irritation may have stemmed from repeated instances in which the victim would choose the songs the suspect wanted to perform.
At the height of the confrontation, the suspect reportedly drew a firearm of still-undetermined type and shot the victim, hitting him in the jaw area. The gunman then fled the scene before authorities arrived.
The wounded man remains confined in a hospital. Police have launched a continuing investigation along with a hot pursuit operation to track down the suspect.
