Bong Go calls for permanent evacuation centers after visiting Uwan-hit areas

Sen. Bong Go renewed his call for the nationwide rollout of permanent evacuation centers as mandated under Republic Act 12076 while visiting communities struck by Typhoon Uwan in Cagayan.

Go made the appeal during relief operations on November 20, where around 1,000 residents from Tuguegarao City, Enrile, Solana, and Tuao received food packs, shirts, and fans. As the principal author of the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, he stressed that evacuation sites must be clean, safe, and equipped with essential facilities including proper sanitation and medical supplies.

“It’s sad to see our fellowmen cramped in a place not suitable for them, such as schools which lead to the disruption of classes and in covered courts which lack sanitation [facilities],” Go said in a mix of Filipino and English.

“To all my fellowmen who were affected by the typhoon, I hope that you are safe. Please don’t lose hope. Let us help one another,” he added.

Beyond the implementation of RA 12076, Go also highlighted the need to advance Senate Bill 173, the proposed Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR) Bill, which he refiled in the 20th Congress. The measure seeks to create a dedicated agency that would unify disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts to strengthen community resilience.
