The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Friday that its officers are on standby to carry out arrest warrants against individuals implicated in the alleged flood control fund scandal, once courts give the go-signal.
Senior officials from the PNP met with the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) and other agencies in a command conference this week to coordinate actions for the government’s probe into questionable public works projects.
In a statement, the PNP said Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. made clear that police forces are ready to move swiftly. “Once cases have been formally filed against subject individuals and arrest warrants are issued by the proper courts,” the statement noted, Nartatez underscored that officers are prepared to enforce them immediately to uphold the administration’s commitment to “swift justice.”
The update follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s earlier assurance that those involved will face jail time before the year ends.
The PNP reiterated that its role in the ongoing investigation includes technical and field support, particularly in “engineering verification, forensic validation and information systems development.” Nartatez added that the police will provide full assistance in checking and validating infrastructure projects flagged as questionable, ensuring “airtight cases against those involved.”
Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon earlier said around 40 individuals are expected to be part of the first group to be held liable for the alleged irregularities.
