Swiss luxury watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre is stepping into the world of digital storytelling with a bold new collaboration featuring Cebu-based webcomic artist Olivecoat. As part of its Made of Makers™ programme, the Maison has unveiled a fresh retelling of the Reverso’s origin story — brought to life through Olivecoat’s pastel-hued aesthetic, expressive character work, and contemporary visual rhythm.
The initiative underscores Jaeger-LeCoultre’s commitment to expanding the boundaries of classical arts. Made of Makers™ bridges horology with creative disciplines outside watchmaking, partnering with artists who embody the brand’s values of craftsmanship, precision, and innovation. The programme celebrates how classical art forms continue to evolve, echoing the same spirit of reinvention that has defined the Reverso since its birth in 1931.
Through this collaboration, Olivecoat becomes the first Filipino webcomic designer to join the Made of Makers™ roster, which has previously included names in visual art, gastronomy, music, perfumery, and design. Her work blends traditional drawing techniques with digital experimentation, producing narratives that resonate with emotional depth. “I’m always reading feedback about how I connect with readers and make them feel seen,” she shares. “Comments like: ‘Oh, I didn’t think this was a universal experience, but it touched me deeply.’ That really motivates me as a creator.”
Her approach lays the foundation for the Reverso webcomic — a new adaptation that transforms historical archives into a fictional narrative. The project reimagines the iconic timepiece’s creation by infusing Eastern visual elements, particularly manga-inspired styling, with a Western origin. This artistic East-meets-West interplay gives the Reverso’s story a renewed contemporary appeal, inviting a wider audience into the universe of fine watchmaking.
Set during the roaring twenties and the pivotal year 1931, the webcomic revisits the moment the Reverso was conceived. It follows César de Trey, the visionary entrepreneur behind the idea, and Jacques-David LeCoultre, the master watchmaker who brought it to life. From the polo fields of India — where the reversible case was inspired — to the Swiss workshops of Le Sentier — where innovation transformed the concept into a timeless icon — the narrative shifts across continents, cultures, and craftsmanship.
Designed as a vertical-scrolling digital comic, the project embraces the modern reading landscape. It revitalises the “9th Art” by reinterpreting classical comic techniques for today’s mobile-first audience.
The Reverso webcomic was released online on October 17, 2025. Jaeger-LeCoultre will also reproduce it in a printed edition as a special gift for selected clients and collectors.
“We are delighted to collaborate with The Webcomic Designer Olivecoat,” says Jérôme Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre. “She is a perfect fit for the Made of Makers™ programme, as she brings instinctive, self-taught mastery to her craft, reimagining classical techniques through a contemporary lens. Her commitment to timeless aesthetics and refined storytelling resonates deeply with our values at Jaeger-LeCoultre’s – making her a natural creative voice for the programme and its celebration of craftsmanship and innovation.”
