Filipino customization artist Bryan Jay Glorioso Espiritu, known for his hand-painted sneaker masterpieces, is taking his craft to a more meaningful level with a heartfelt new initiative called “Art in Every Step” — a small charity project aimed at restoring and redesigning old sneakers for less fortunate children in the Philippines.
“I just want to use my talent to bless others and bring smiles through art and kindness,” Bryan said in an interview with The Global Filipino Magazine. “Every pair I paint carries a piece of art, love, and hope — because even one small step can make a difference.”
Bryan, who has been based in the UAE for 15 years and currently works as a customization specialist at Nike Yas Mall, shared that the inspiration behind the project came from his desire to give back to Filipino communities using what he does best: painting on shoes.
The project works in four simple steps:
Collect Donations – Community members are encouraged to donate old or unused sneakers, especially in children’s sizes.
Clean & Restore – Bryan personally washes, disinfects, and repairs the shoes to bring them back to life.
Add Art – Each pair is hand-painted with simple yet uplifting designs to make it uniquely special for the recipient.
Distribute – The final products are either sent or hand-delivered to kids in local schools and communities back in the Philippines.
His goal is to collect at least 50 pairs for the first wave of donations — turning worn sneakers into vibrant, personalized gifts that children will not only wear, but treasure.
“Even if it’s just one pair, or a few brushes, or even just helping me share the word — every small act of giving counts,” Bryan emphasized. “Let’s make art walk with purpose.”
Bryan is welcoming donations in two ways: those in the UAE can coordinate drop-offs or meet in person, while supporters abroad can help by sponsoring shipping or donating art supplies for the customizations.
With previous high-profile works featuring Travis Scott, Michael Jordan, and Cristiano Ronaldo hand-painted on sneakers, Bryan has proven his artistic talent time and time again. But this time, it’s not just about showcasing skill — it’s about impact.
“This is not just about art,” Bryan added. “It’s about reminding kids they are seen, loved, and valued. These shoes are a symbol of care — and hopefully, of inspiration.”
