Abu Dhabi Police has rolled out a new public awareness effort urging residents to guard themselves against evolving online scams targeting people across the emirate.
The campaign, titled “Be Cautious”, focuses on alerting the public to modern digital fraud tactics, including phishing links, fake prize messages, fraudulent shopping platforms, misleading investment offers, and scam calls requesting urgent money transfers. Authorities stressed that victims are often lured by tempting promises, eventually discovering “they paid money for nothing.”
Major General Mohamed Suhail Al Rashdi, Director of the Criminal Security Sector, said the initiative reflects the force’s ongoing commitment to boosting community awareness about cyber threats. He noted that the drive “underscores Abu Dhabi Police’s ongoing efforts to enhance public awareness of cybercrimes.”
According to police, scammers now exploit a variety of methods, from fraudulent banking notifications to advertisements offering fake gold and suspiciously low-rate luxury chalet bookings. Residents are urged to avoid sharing personal or banking information with unverified sources.
The three-month campaign includes educational programs across social media, traditional platforms, community councils, universities, and schools. It is being carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, UAE Cybersecurity Council, Abu Dhabi Media, First Abu Dhabi Bank, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, and other police departments.
