The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed its condolences following the death of a Filipino seafarer serving on board the M/S Arvia, a vessel operated by P&O Cruises.
In a statement, the agency confirmed that the crewmember’s employer has begun looking into the circumstances of the incident. “The licensed manning agency that deployed the seafarer reported that the circumstances surrounding the crew member’s death are still under investigation and that they are in ongoing coordination with the vessel owner to ensure a thorough and transparent process,” the DMW said.
The department underscored the weight of the loss and recognized the service of Filipino seafarers around the world. “This loss is profoundly mourned throughout the maritime community. Our seafarers serve with dedication and bravery in international waters, and we honor their service, professionalism, and sacrifice,” it added.
The DMW assured continued support for Filipino workers at sea and their families, particularly in difficult times. “The Department remains committed to protecting the welfare, safety, and dignity of every Filipino worker abroad, especially during times of grief and hardship,” the agency said.
The M/S Arvia, constructed by Meyer Werft in Germany, entered service in December 2022 and is registered in Bermuda.
