Filipina shares tale of cultural immersion, professional triumphs, and artistic passions in Dubai

In the vast tapestry of Filipinos carving a niche overseas, Ross-Kim Orel Betita stands out as an emblem of resilience, adaptability, and relentless passion. Her journey paints a vivid picture not just of a Filipino finding her feet on foreign soil but of an individual weaving a diverse narrative of experiences, learning, and continuous self-exploration.

Growing up, Ross-Kim’s life was a blend of rich Filipino traditions interlaced with global influences. Her initial professional endeavors in the Philippines allowed her to dip her toes in a range of industries. From the lush ambiance of Fort Ilocandia Resort Hotel, where she dabbled in hospitality, to the bustling world of telecommunications, technical support, and customer service, she continually stretched her boundaries.

“Each role,” she fondly remembers, “was not just a job but a learning chapter, refining my abilities, broadening my outlook, and setting the stage for what lay beyond the horizon.”

But Ross-Kim isn’t just defined by her professional accolades. She finds solace and expression in the realms of music and photography, balancing the structured demands of corporate life with the fluidity of art.

“They’re avenues that let my soul breathe, allowing me to find harmony amidst the chaos,” she shares with The Global Filipino Magazine, highlighting the intrinsic role these hobbies play in preserving her mental and emotional well-being.

Her leap overseas wasn’t devoid of trials. Like many, Ross-Kim grappled with the pangs of separation, especially being away from her beloved children. The emotional landscape of homesickness and the quest to find one’s footing in an unfamiliar land posed significant challenges.

Yet, the ever-resilient Ross-Kim saw these not as insurmountable hurdles but as phases in her life journey.

“It’s the bonds we forge, the community we build, that becomes our sanctuary,” she notes, emphasizing the pivotal role her close-knit circle of friends played in navigating her overseas chapter.

Having experienced life in Saudi Arabia during her formative years, Ross-Kim was equipped with the nuances of adapting to diverse cultures. This early immersion proved invaluable when she ventured to Dubai, a melting pot of cultures and traditions.

With her characteristic zest, she observes, “Diversity here isn’t a hindrance but an enriching palette of experiences. It’s an ongoing lesson in global citizenship, which I relish with open arms.”

In Dubai, as a Facility Manager, Ross-Kim combines her multifaceted skills, reflecting her dynamic personality and innovative solutions. Her role isn’t merely a designation but a mission.

“I don’t see it as a job. It’s my canvas to create an impact, to redefine standards in customer service, infusing them with excellence and compassion,” she passionately articulates.

Ross-Kim’s commitment to embracing new experiences reflects her broader life philosophy. To her fellow Filipinos embarking on international adventures, her counsel is a blend of wisdom and experience: “Stay tethered to your roots, retain your core identity amidst the evolving landscapes, and dive headfirst into fresh experiences. Let these guiding principles be your compass, navigating you through the ebbs and flows of life abroad.”

While many yearn for the familiarity and comfort of retirement back home, Ross-Kim envisions a future unconfined by geographical constraints. Her dream is one of constant movement, exploration, and immersion in varied cultures.

“It’s not about settling,” she muses, “but about satiating my curiosity, which drives me from one adventure to the next. Maybe it’s the next professional challenge, a new cultural immersion, or a philanthropic endeavor; I’m always ready for the next chapter.”

Concluding her reflections, Ross-Kim offers additional pearls: the importance of mutual cultural respect, the significance of language proficiency in non-English-speaking terrains, and the enriching journey of giving back, whether in the adopted land or to the Philippines.

“Maintaining our cultural heritage, celebrating Filipino festivities even miles away from home, and understanding the essence of patience and adaptability are cornerstones of a fulfilling life abroad,” she advises.
