Two men caught digging for drugs in Dubai sentenced to long jail terms

Two Arab men have been sentenced by the Dubai Court of Appeal for drug possession and consumption after being caught digging for hidden narcotics in Al Wahida late at night, Khaleej Times reported.

The court sentenced one of the men to five years in prison and the other to 12 years. Both were fined AED 100,000 and will face restrictions on transferring or depositing funds for two years after serving their jail terms.

Police officers on patrol in Al Wahida noticed the two men behaving suspiciously while digging. Authorities said both appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Upon searching them, police found 20 grams of hashish with the first suspect and 100 grams of mixed narcotics—including hashish, cocaine, and other psychotropic substances—with the second.

When officers attempted to make an arrest, one of the men tried to flee but was quickly restrained. Both were taken to the General Department of Narcotics Control, where forensic tests confirmed they were under the influence of drugs.

Investigations revealed the pair had obtained the narcotics from an unidentified dealer through WhatsApp. After sending payment via bank transfer, they were given GPS coordinates to the buried stash. The suspects admitted they went to the area to retrieve the drugs.

The court also ordered the confiscation of the seized narcotics and the deportation of both men after completing their sentences.
