Authorities across the UAE are on high alert as the country braces for several days of unstable weather marked by fog, rainfall, strong winds, and rough seas.
The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) announced that it is closely monitoring weather conditions in coordination with the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), the Ministry of Interior, and other government agencies. The public has been urged to remain vigilant, follow official weather updates, and avoid flood-prone areas.
The NCM warned that from Friday through the middle of next week, parts of the northern, eastern, and western regions, including some inland areas, could experience convective clouds, rain, and blowing dust, leading to reduced visibility. The Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman are also expected to be rough, with high waves and strong winds reaching up to 50 km/h.
On Saturday morning, thick fog covered several parts of Abu Dhabi, prompting police warnings to motorists to drive carefully and comply with safety regulations. The NCM reported that fog formation between 5:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. significantly reduced horizontal visibility, particularly over coastal and inland western areas.
The country’s weather instability is attributed to a surface low-pressure system from the south, combined with an upper-level low bringing cooler, humid air, resulting in a noticeable temperature drop over the weekend.
On Sunday, October 12, skies are forecast to be partly cloudy to cloudy, with light to moderate rainfall, occasionally heavy in northern and eastern areas, extending inland and westward. There is also a chance of hail in isolated regions.
Winds are expected to shift from southeasterly to northwesterly, sometimes strong enough to stir up dust and sand. Temperatures in Dubai are forecast to reach 36.7°C with a low of 28.3°C, while Abu Dhabi will see highs around 36.1°C and lows near 27.8°C.
NCEMA reaffirmed that all response teams remain fully prepared to ensure public safety amid the changing weather conditions.
