Step-by-step: How OFWs can avail ₱20,000 worth of free medicines from Alagang OWWA Botika

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families now have access to free medicines worth up to ₱20,000 per year through the newly launched Alagang OWWA Botika, part of the Alagang OWWA: Yakap at Gamot program. The initiative, powered by VidaCure and in partnership with PhilHealth, aims to make healthcare more accessible for both active and non-active OFW members.

Eligibility and basic requirements

To qualify, beneficiaries must have a valid PhilHealth number. The program is open not only to active OWWA members but also to retired, repatriated, and non-active OFWs, as long as they or their dependents are registered under PhilHealth. This inclusive approach ensures that more Filipino migrant families receive the medical assistance they need.

Free medical consultations every Friday

Every Friday is YAKAP Day at the OWWA Central Office in Pasay City, where OFWs and their families can avail of free medical consultations from YAKAP-accredited doctors between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. During the check-up, doctors assess patients and issue prescriptions for needed medications.
It’s important to note that consultations are held only on Fridays, with no medical services available from Monday to Thursday.

Claiming free medicines at OWWA Botika

Once the consultation is completed, patients can present their doctor’s prescription at the Alagang OWWA Botika, which operates Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The pharmacy provides free medicines with an annual allocation of up to ₱20,000 per beneficiary. The available medicines include a wide range of maintenance and essential drugs — around 75 types in total — under the program’s formulary.

Additional services for OWWA members

Active members visiting the Central Office may also apply for or claim their OWWA eCard on-site, offering easier access to other OWWA programs and benefits.

Expanding access nationwide

Currently, the Alagang OWWA Botika operates at the central office in Pasay City, but plans are underway to expand the service nationwide. Satellite and partner locations such as Gateway Mall in Quezon City and Festival Mall in Alabang are expected to offer the same services soon.
Additionally, OWWA is deploying mobile medical and diagnostic clinics through the “LAB for ALL” initiative to reach more OFW families across the country, providing free lab tests, consultations, and medicines closer to their communities.
