The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expanded its global reach with the inauguration of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Bangkok, marking the Philippines’ 42nd such office worldwide. The move aims to enhance support and accessibility for more than 40,000 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) currently based in Thailand.
Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac led the opening ceremony, joined by Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes, Labor Attaché Don Pangcog, Assistant Secretary Regina Galias, Deputy Administrator Rossane Catapang, Director Edz Claustro, and Director Ronald Mina. The event underscored the government’s continuing commitment to strengthen its presence and assistance for Filipinos abroad.
According to Cacdac, MWO Bangkok is envisioned to serve as a “home away from home” for Filipino workers, offering immediate assistance in times of crisis and ensuring easier access to vital programs of the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
To further enhance its operations, the department will soon deploy an OWWA Welfare Officer to Bangkok to ensure that every OFW receives care and protection consistent with the DMW’s guiding principle of “Service with a Heart.”
