UAE: Man to pay AED 30,000 for filming woman without consent

An Abu Dhabi man has been ordered to pay a total of AED 30,000 in fines and compensation after being convicted of filming a woman without her consent, according to a report by Khaleej Times.

The Abu Dhabi Criminal Court initially fined him AED 10,000 for taking unauthorized photos of the woman. Following that ruling, the victim pursued a civil case, claiming damages for the emotional and reputational harm caused.

Court records showed that the Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Court awarded the woman AED 20,000 in compensation, in addition to legal fees.

The court stressed that the earlier criminal conviction was final and binding, confirming the man’s liability. Judges cited provisions under the UAE Civil Transactions Law, which mandate compensation for acts causing harm, including moral and psychological distress.

In her testimony, the woman told the court that the incident deeply hurt her dignity, caused psychological suffering, and tarnished her reputation within the community.
