Dubai Police has issued a strong reminder on the dangers of driving while fatigued after a collision between two trucks left one driver injured on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, near the Al Maktoum Airport roundabout toward Abu Dhabi.
Authorities confirmed that the crash occurred when one of the truck drivers reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing his vehicle to slam into another truck. The impact left the driver injured and created heavy congestion in the area, forcing traffic diversions until the road was cleared.
Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, underscored the severity of such incidents. “In particular, falling asleep at the wheel is one of the leading causes of traffic accidents resulting in fatalities and severe injuries,” he said.
He explained that traffic experts were dispatched immediately to investigate the accident and gather evidence, while patrol teams secured the site and facilitated access for ambulances and rescue crews. Damaged vehicles were removed swiftly to restore normal traffic flow.
Bin Suwaidan reiterated that drivers must take rest seriously before getting behind the wheel. He urged motorists to stay alert, pull over if they feel drowsy, and strictly follow safety rules to protect themselves and others on the road.
