The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has expressed deep sympathy for the victims of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that rocked Cebu and Leyte on the night of September 30, and has announced immediate action to assist the devastated communities.
In a statement released on October 1, the OVP assured affected families that its regional teams are now working to provide relief and fast-track recovery efforts. The office said it is offering prayers “for the peace of the departed, the healing of the injured, and the swift rehabilitation of the communities affected by the tragedy.”
To coordinate relief operations, three satellite hubs have been designated: the OVP–Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor Satellite Office; the OVP–Eastern Visayas Satellite Office; and the OVP–Panay and Negros Islands Satellite Office.
The Vice President also extended words of encouragement to those enduring the aftermath of the disaster, praying for their “courage, strength of faith, and hope” as they face the challenges ahead.
