The Czech Republic has renewed its pledge to uphold the rights and dignity of Filipino workers, emphasizing their vital role in Czech society.
During the Czech Republic’s 107th National Day Reception at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City on September 29, 2025, Ambassador Karel Hejč gave a strong assurance of his country’s commitment. “This may be my personal promise to you, Mr. Secretary: We are committed to ensuring that every Filipino worker feels respected, included, and appreciated as a full member of our society,” he said.
The envoy praised the growing Filipino community in the Czech Republic, describing their contribution as indispensable both in the workplace and in daily life. “Filipino workers have enriched our society, not just through their skills and dedication, but also through their warmth and cultural values. They are not only employees; they are part of our communities and part of our future,” he noted.
Ambassador Hejč also highlighted the deepening ties between the Philippines and the Czech Republic, pointing to new business partnerships and cooperation in labor mobility, human rights, and regional peace.
Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Leo M. Herrera-Lim responded by underscoring the historic roots of Philippine-Czech relations, dating back to Jesuit missionaries from Bohemia who contributed to the fields of pharmacology and botany in the Philippines. He likened the enduring bond to the Camellia flower, whose name traces back to Czech naturalists.
Herrera-Lim further expressed hope for stronger cooperation ahead of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship in 2026, noting the Czech Republic’s growing engagement with ASEAN-EU mechanisms.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and other officials from the Department of Migrant Workers joined dignitaries, government representatives, members of the Czech community, and private sector partners at the celebration hosted by Ambassador Hejč.
