A wedding in southern Egypt turned into a tragedy when the groom collapsed and died during his own celebration, local media reported.
The incident happened Thursday evening in Aswan Governorate, where Ashraf Abu Hakam was dancing and holding his bride’s hand when he suddenly fell to the ground. Guests rushed to help him, but all attempts to revive him failed. Doctors later confirmed he had suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
Moments earlier, the hall was filled with music, cheers, and laughter. That joy was instantly replaced by silence, then cries of grief, as family and friends watched the long-awaited wedding transform into a scene of mourning.
News of the sudden death spread quickly across Egyptian social media, where hundreds expressed shock and offered condolences. “He was full of life, smiling, excited for his future,” one of his friends wrote. Others remembered celebrating his engagement just the day before, never imagining it would be followed so quickly by heartbreak.
Photos and videos initially taken to capture the couple’s new beginning are now being shared as reminders of a joyous occasion that ended in sorrow.
