OFWs to get free checkups and medicines through new OWWA programs

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families will soon have easier access to medical care and essential medicines with the rollout of a new mobile diagnostic clinic and the launch of the Alagang OWWA Botika.

During a turnover ceremony in Pasay City, OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan expressed gratitude to First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for providing a LAB for ALL medical and laboratory truck. “Nagpapasalamat po tayo sa ating mahal na First Lady Louise Araneta Marcos, for her generosity, at kitang-kita naman, isang magandang medical truck ang ibinigay sa OWWA. At sa suporta ng ating mahal na Pangulo, Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” Caunan said.

The mobile clinic is fully equipped with X-ray, ultrasound, and laboratory facilities. Weekly operations will begin at OWWA’s headquarters in Pasay, offering free consultations and diagnostic services exclusively for active members and their dependents. Plans are in place to expand services to regional OWWA offices.

Alongside the mobile clinic, OWWA also introduced the Alagang OWWA Botika in partnership with VidaCure, an accredited partner under PhilHealth’s YAKAP at GAMOT program. This initiative will provide OFWs and their families direct access to essential medicines, starting September 29 at the OWWA Central Office.

Caunan emphasized that the project will be registered under PhilHealth’s YAKAP program to ensure sustainability. “Maraming matutulungan na mga kababayan natin kasi i-re-register natin ito under the YAKAP program ng PhilHealth… libre na serbisyo para sa ating mga kababayan and at the same time sustainable siya kasi hindi sa OWWA siya, PhilHealth ang magsusholder ng ating expenses para sa ating mga OFWs,” she explained.

The agreement also enhances primary healthcare benefits for OWWA members, including free or subsidized consultations, laboratory work, cancer screenings, and other vital services. The botika is expected to roll out nationwide in the coming months.
