Umbrella rental service coming to Dubai to beat the heat

In a bid to combat the sweltering summer heat of Dubai, Canadian firm UmbraCity is set to introduce a unique solution: umbrella rentals.

Amir Entezari, the brain behind UmbraCity, revealed that they are discussing plans with Dubai’s authorities for the rollout. He believes this initiative will be a “game changer in the battle against heat.”

While the practice of using umbrellas as a shield against the sun is customary amongst Asian expats in the UAE, particularly Filipinos, it’s also common in several Asian countries and Canada, irrespective of whether it’s raining or shining.

UmbraCity’s innovative umbrellas, designed to provide UV protection, will be stationed at various public spots throughout Dubai. Remarkably, these umbrellas can lower the temperature by up to 6 degrees beneath them. Furthermore, UAE residents will be able to access these umbrellas free of charge for the initial 24 hours.

To facilitate easy access, the umbrellas will be equipped with a smart chip. Users can unlock them either by registering at a kiosk or via the dedicated app.

While the official launch date for the service remains undisclosed, the anticipation is already high amongst residents and tourists alike.
