Filipino worker in Kuwait sentenced to death over employer’s child’s death

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed that a Filipino overseas worker in Kuwait has been sentenced to death after being implicated in the death of the child of her employer.

In a statement, the agency expressed grief over the development. “Nakikiramay kami sa pamilyang Kuwaiti sa kanilang pagkawala, at kasabay nito ay nakikiramay kami sa mabigat na pinagdaraanan ng ating manggagawang Pilipino at ng kanyang pamilya,” the DMW said.

Authorities stressed that the Philippine government has been providing immediate legal and consular assistance from the onset of the case. The Department of Foreign Affairs and the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait have assigned a lawyer to handle the appeal process and continue to monitor the worker’s condition to ensure her rights are protected under Kuwaiti law.

The DMW assured that assistance is also being extended to the OFW’s family in the Philippines to shield her children from the emotional toll of the case. Officials emphasized that while the Philippines respects Kuwait’s legal system, the government remains firm in its mandate to uphold the rights and dignity of every Filipino overseas.

“Ipagtatanggol namin ang karapatan at dignidad ng bawat Pilipino saan man sila naroroon. Hindi namin kayo iiwanan,” the department added, underscoring ongoing efforts on legal, diplomatic, and humanitarian fronts.

The agency also clarified that the incident is an isolated case and should not be seen as representative of the millions of overseas Filipino workers globally recognized for their dedication, professionalism, and compassion.
