The Al Ain Criminal Court has sentenced a 25-year-old Ethiopian maid and her boyfriend to three months in prison, followed by deportation, after finding them guilty of stealing cash and jewellery from her employer’s villa.
Court documents revealed that the maid, identified as M.T.A., conspired with her boyfriend, A.S.A., 30, to repeatedly break into the residence. The stolen items included Dh5,000 in cash and various pieces of jewellery, some belonging to the employer’s young daughters.
The case began on May 25, 2025, when the employer filed a complaint at Falaj Hazza Police Station after a part-time maid raised suspicions about unusual activity in the villa. Reviewing surveillance footage with her sister, the employer discovered the man attempting to enter the house multiple times. A neighbour also handed over a jewellery box dropped by the suspect while fleeing through his backyard, further strengthening the evidence.
Investigators confirmed the maid had known her accomplice before joining the household. Under questioning, she confessed that he had pressured her into stealing so they could gather money quickly, return to Ethiopia, and get married. She admitted to taking smaller items earlier and convincing her employer they had only been misplaced.
Police later tracked down the boyfriend with the help of an informant. Initially, he denied involvement, but after being confronted with security footage and the maid’s detailed statement, he confessed to his role in the crimes.
