More than 3,000 Filipinos from across the Czech Republic and nearby countries came together in an unforgettable celebration of culture, community, and pride during the first-ever Filipínska Barrio Fiesta held on September 13, 2025, at Hostivařská Přehrada.
The landmark event brought to life the vibrant traditions of the Philippines through music, dance, and cuisine—transforming the heart of Prague into a festive Filipino gathering. But beyond the colors and cheers, it was a powerful show of unity among overseas Filipinos and a reaffirmation of government support.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Undersecretary Felicitas Q. Bay led the delegation and reminded the crowd that wherever they are in the world, the Philippine government is with them. “The DMW will always be your partner, your support system, and your true home—the Tahanan ng OFW,” she said, stirring applause from the overseas community.
The fiesta was made possible through the joint efforts of the National Organizing Committee, the Philippine Embassy under Ambassador Eduardo Meñez, and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Prague—DMW’s operational arm with jurisdiction over five other countries including Poland and Ukraine. Labor Attaché Llewelyn Pérez spearheaded local coordination, with support from various NGOs, foreign placement agencies, employers, and ASEAN community members.
Adding weight to the occasion was the presence of OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne “PY” Caunan, who reassured Filipinos of continued programs and protection from the government agency dedicated to their welfare.
